SLEEP BETTER, FUNCTION BETTER

Sleep is proving more and more critical to your brain function. Ongoing research shows deep sleep is when critical brain activities happen. During sleep, you sort through the day’s information to make memories. Your brain cleans and clears the pathways necessary to manage executive functions like controlling emotions.

Deep sleep regulates mood and manages your immune system. Many parts of your brain are more active during deep sleep than when you’re awake.

Deep sleep helps maintain communication between the prefrontal cortex (where self-control is managed) and the amygdala. This communication enables you to function rationally during your waking hours.

That also means that sleep disturbances that prevent you from reaching deep sleep are incredibly damaging. Poor sleep is associated with cognitive impairment, lack of emotional control and poor judgement.

Poor sleep also contributes to sluggish immune responses. Studies show an increase in neurodegenerative diseases and persistent psychiatric problems and disorders in those who sleep poorly.

In fact, emergent results indicate that even just one night of sleep deprivation results in a buildup of a protein implicated in Alzheimer’s disease. Good, therapeutic sleep is showing positive results as a treatment for a growing spectrum of psychiatric disorders. Rest reduces many symptoms and encourages recovery.

The more we learn, the more importance sleep takes on in relation to brain function. Intellibed with Gel Matrix is an intelligent means to achieving better sleep.

BREATHING EASIER BY DESIGN

Dust mites, mold, fungus and the off-gassing of petrochemicals cause irritations, breathing issues and allergic reactions. Typical mattresses can have many if not all of these issues. Allergic rhinitis and asthma are naturally worse overnight. Those symptoms are magnified in a poorly constructed bed.

Over the course of a night’s sleep, your body’s anti-inflammatory hormone levels naturally reduce. This leaves you open to inflammation in your nose and lungs in response to the allergens around you.

Avoiding this requires more research when buying a bed. Always try to sleep on a surface of all-natural materials and be aware of manufacturing processes that use harsh harmful chemicals.

Intellibed’s Gel Matrix is non-toxic and doesn’t produce unpleasant orders or unhealthy off-gassing.

Remember, Intellibed is not just a bed company, but sleep and wellness company with the mission to improve the quality of your life by giving you a better, healthier sleep.

GRAVITY ASSISTED AIRFLOW

Obstructed Sleep Apnea (OSA) happens when a person stops breathing for 10 seconds during sleep. This condition is encouraged by genetic predisposition or excess weight, adenoid/tonsil/dental issues, and even some birth defects. It can also be influenced by poor sleep posture.

Sleep apnea destroys full-cycle sleep. This lack of sleep leads to a cascade of current and future health problems.

OSA risk also increases for women during pregnancy and after menopause. Untreated, it’s associated with everything from hypertension, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, angina, reflux and hypothyroidism.

It is common to have both sleep apnea and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This combination will limit sleep and can lead to serious complications. In many cases a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine can make a serious difference in relieving apnea as well as GERD. In addition to the treatment correct sleep posture can also help with these conditions. This is yet another reason to pay strict attention to the bed you invest in.

An Intellibed with Gel Matrix, along with one of our state-of-the-art adjustable bases, can improve your sleep posture while also helping with gravity-induced airflow.

PICKING THE PERECT BED SHOULD NOT
BE A PAIN IN THE NECK

Good sleep posture is critical to avoiding musculoskeletal pain in your entire neck, shoulders and spine.

Your neck (cervical spine) is made up of seven bones stacked upon one another (vertebrae) with small shock-absorbing discs between them. These vertebrae depend on a gentle curve to prevent pinching and strain.

When a stiff neck or arm pain develops during sleep, it’s caused by a misalignment of this curve from poor sleep posture. It can be made worse by our waking “head-forward” phone obsession and computer habits. Over time this cumulative effect of poor sleep posture can be debilitating and require medical attention. Improving your sleep posture can prevent and reverse this trajectory.

Intellibed’s Gel Matrix is scientifically designed to encourage good sleep posture while relieving pressure on your shoulders and hips.

No other bed manufacturer is more committed to improving the quality of your sleep than Intellibed.

YOUR BACK HAS OUR FULL SUPPORT

Proper spinal alignment and support is the number one job of a mattress.

The spine is key to overall health. It not only protects your entire nervous system, it supports your body in concert with multiple muscles, joints, bones and ligaments.

The discs that act as cushions between vertebrae are not indestructible. They wear down, shrink and can experience damage from pressure over time. They are also vulnerable to disease and impact damage from daily life.

Over time, common spinal conditions often show first in the form of early morning back pain. They also show up as leg pain when standing or walking, a loss of mobility or height and more.

Most of us will experience some form of back pain in our lives. Causes can include poor waking posture, genetic disc issues, arthritis, obesity, pregnancy, psychological stress or other related health issues.

One of the more common causes of back pain is poor sleep posture. This can be a direct result of poor mattress construction. The center of a bed, where the heaviest part of your body rests, sinks with regular use. This divot bends the spine, which also disrupts the sleep required for healing any pre-existing back pain. This also creates more damage and discomfort by causing a swayback position.

For those seeking relief from existing back pain from repetitive motion, disease, injury, spinal arthritis, lumbar spinal stenosis, degenerative spondylolisthesis or compression fractures – the effect of poor posture can be devastating.

Memory foam is especially prone to this kind of sinkage over time. Despite rebounding in appearance each morning, the dip happens faster each evening.

The innovative sleep system support built on Intellibed’s Gel Matrix promotes spinal alignment for improved sleep posture, night after night.

FINALLY, RELIEF FROM PINCHED NERVES
AND SCIATICA PAIN

Your spine is actually a shallow “s” shape. It flows from your upper or cervical spine to the inward curve and supports your rib cage and upper body to the lowest portion or lumbar spine that gently curves outward. This lower portion houses the largest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve. This extends from your lower back to the back of each leg. Sciatica occurs when the root or roots of this nerve become compressed, pinched or irritated. The results can be tingling in your lower limbs, shooting pain in your back, legs or hips and relentless discomfort.

Sciatica pain can be caused by too soft of a mattress. It can also occur with age, prolonged sitting, occupational damage, pregnancy, disease, weight gain and other factors.

Maintaining proper posture is key to preventing sciatica, both awake and asleep. It’s often difficult to find a way to achieve restorative sleep without flare ups. Many experts recommend a firmer mattress to address the pain.

Intellibed’s Gel Matrix can provide the support and the give to maintain the “s” curve your spine needs. Because of its unique firm and soft qualities, you get proper spinal alignment while relaxing your pressure points at the same time.

By adding one of our state-of-the-art adjustable bases, you can raise your head and legs at the same time and experience healing in the “zero-gravity” position.

DISCOVER THE PERFECT BED
FOR PREGNANCY, BIRTH AND FATIGUE

Sleep changes dramatically during pregnancy. The result is less efficient sleep in increasingly smaller bursts as hormone activity changes.

Fatigue is a major problem in pregnancy health. With the first trimester, your body needs needs additional sleep. Later, a growing discomfort makes achieving restful sleep a greater challenge. Women with underlying sleep disorders (apnea or restless leg syndrome) may find their symptoms worsen or they develop new ones.

Physical discomfort, psychological adjustments and hormonal changes all impact sleep. By the third trimester, sleep disruptions include everything from back pain, joint pain, tenderness, heartburn, cramps and overall discomfort. This comes at a time when emotions are already riding high and deep sleep is more necessary than ever.

Early data indicates sleep deprivation during pregnancy may even contribute to longer labor, more pain and discomfort during labor, higher rates of preterm labor and cesarean sections. Improved maternal sleep has multiple benefits during pregnancy, and has been connected to avoiding postpartum depression.

Invest in a bed that can support your spine and belly to find relief while encouraging side sleeping. The structure of our non-toxic, Intellibed with Gel Matrix provides both the firm support and soft “give” to adjust to your changing physical profile.

IMPROVE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
WITH LONGER AND BETTER SLEEP

It’s no secret that the same mechanisms that control sleep also affect your immune system. This explains the negative effect of sleep loss on your inflammatory response. It also points to sleep intervention as a positive way to improve symptoms and help with pain management.

People with chronic inflammatory or autoimmune diseases (such as fibromyalgia, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), cardiovascular disease, rheumatic arthritis, diabetes or chronic fatigue syndrome) experience high levels of inflammation resulting in constant fatigue, and have trouble achieving restorative sleep.

For many people with these disorders, the combination of pain and sleep disturbance is a vicious circle. Chronic pain makes sleep more difficult. Sleep deprivation exacerbates the pain.

Better sleep can make a substantial difference when dealing with these conditions. A mattress that contributes to improved sleep should be seen as an investment in your health, happiness and well-being.

THE INTELLIBED MOVEMENT TO
HELP RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME

Restless leg syndrome (RLS), also known as Willis-Ekbom (WED) disease, is described as an uncomfortable tingly, painful, burning or achy feeling in the leg. They have been described as “like pins and needles, worms or bugs crawling deep in the muscle, or water running under the skin.”

These symptoms most often occur in the evening, and severely disrupt sleep. Activity (such as walking or moving the legs) usually relieves this feeling immediately. This causes many sleepers to kick or rise during the night and disturb their partners.

While treatment includes iron supplements, exercise therapies and massage, research is ongoing. Many experts suggest investing in a better mattress to improve blood flow overall with better spinal alignment.

Among the benefits of an Intellibed with Gel Matrix is the reduction of motion transfer, so you can work out a leg cramp or uncomfortable tingly feeling without waking your partner. Improved airflow and cooling can also help prevent flare ups.

Are you looking for a fibromyalgia mattress?

Fibromyalgia is a musculoskeletal condition that results in joint pain and fatigue at several points in the body, plus can lead to chronic fatigue. There are more than 12 million fibromyalgia cases in the United States. The majority of fibromyalgia cases are women, who are 10 times more likely to get the disease than men. It usually manifests anywhere from age 25 to 60 and there is no known cure.

Fibromyalgia Causes and Symptoms

Scientists aren’t sure what causes fibromyalgia, but it has been linked to a combination of genetics and environmental stresses. The disease does run in families, hinting at a genetic component that may point to certain predisposed sensitivities. Certain illnesses and infections are also connected to fibromyalgia, as are certain kinds of physical or emotional stress. The risk factors in developing the disease include the sex of the patient, family history and a history of certain diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

Because the symptoms of fibromyalgia are similar to other conditions, it is often difficult to diagnose at first. Symptoms include deep muscle and joint pain, stiffness, anxiety, fatigue, and insomnia. Common pain centers include the neck, shoulder, hips, back, and knees.

Fibromyalgia and Sleep

People who suffer from fibromyalgia manage pain via medication and pressure relief to get the deep, healing sleep they need because they are so sensitive to any level of pressure, especially when lying down or sleeping.

Those with fibromyalgia struggle with getting enough restful sleep due to the chronic pain they endure. Because sleep is such an important time for the body to relax and repair itself, it’s important for those with fibromyalgia to do everything they can to ensure the best sleeping conditions possible. The wrong mattress, for example, can contribute to sleepless nights and won’t offer much relief from pain.

Mattress Material and Design

Because of the specific type of joint pain that fibromyalgia causes, it’s important for people to choose a mattress that is designed to relieve the pressure on muscles and joints in order to ease that pain. When a mattress is too soft or doesn’t support the body in all the right places, the body sinks down into the mattress and stresses the joints, amplifying the pain. A mattress designed specifically for comfort and support eases the pressure and helps relieve the pain.

Our Gel Matrix™ mattresses are uniquely designed to help sufferers of Fibromyalgia better than any other bed. The key is the Gel Matrix™. You can see in this image how the Gel Matrix™ reduces pressure better than any of the other leading national mattress brands:
